Beautifying My Life
5.05.2007 ||
Finals were last week and my first semester of grad school is officially over. These next 2 years are going to be trying, but I don't see it happening any other way. Unfortunately, I came down with food poisoning in the middle of finals. Let's just say that final presentation was challenging. I finally got over the nausea on Tuesday and got back to working, working out, and finishing more of my apartment!
Before I even get into the pics, I just want to make a statement that I own all of it. No financing. Working girl, bitches! I'm pretty proud that I worked and did all of this by myself (with some paint help from the Dork, hehe) The styles def represent me-- I love clean lines, I love to decorate, I love to get my hands on making stuff, and I like "different". If you don't like it, TOUGH!
So this is what I accomplished by Wednesday! This is what you see walking into my living room. I chose Ralph Lauren's Palm Leaf green. My color scheme was influenced by my favorite flower, the orchid- purples and greens. I JUST finished making the panels on Wednes in time for girls' night. Key pieces: Entertainment center! It was my closet at the old house, but I got some more shelves, bought myself a new Sony Bravia LCD, and added the purple accents to offset the green. It's not entirely done because I still have some frames to fill. All in due time.

If you turn to the left, you'll run into my seating area. When I get some time, that is where I am.
The wall centerpice is a series of six 11x14 collages that integrate the important pieces in my life. The left side represents my family, the middle includes my life with my boyfriend, and the right side is of my treasured friends! This is probably one of my other favorite parts of the room, since I made it and it's pretty personal. I took some of the things I had saved for my scrapbook for it, like tickets, personal notes, pressed flowers, and wrapping to make it mine. D is going to jock it for his place revamp. It's ok, I approve hehe. He actually has a similar style to mine. I wouldn't dig others doing it if it's conrtrived and not them. Don't Jock. Get your own style. No side reference there.

THIS is why the apartment isn't done yet. This is my to-do list in the dining area. I've been on the lookout for a dining table, but nothing has yet to catch my eye. I'm pretty particular about it, but I think I'm going to rock out that back wall with some color and draw in the style of the LV into the dining room.
The bedroom is getting there. I chose Victorian Mauve to cover the wall behind my bed and the wall opposite it where my vanity sits. Here are some shots:

I know what you're thinking. "Ridiculous!" Yeah, I am a jewelry whore. I love accessories and I turned 3 kitchen hardware pieces to my own personal store. Don't go jocking my style now. I don't like copycats. (Ignore the mirror smudges!)

D helped me put up my TV since the vanity took up my entire wall.

This is only half of my closet. The fun half, hehe. The other half is business clothes. Comon, you have to organize! Yes, shoes are protected and I hate to say it, but I will be adding photos to the front of those boxes so I can find the shoes fast. I like order.
Well, that is where the apartment sits now. Being an engineer, I think I did well to bring out the girl but not drown it in girly.
This is me.
