Are you kidding me? Why, as a matter of fact I am Asian. Why, as a matter of fact, my fiancé is also Asian. Why, yes we both have black hair. Why, yes we both have natural tan skin. Why, yes we have dark brown eyes. Yesterday, at a theknot booth at a Bridal Show representing Mid-Michigan:

You guys are SUCH a cute couple, you look like brother and sister. What nationality are you two?
*Thinking: WTF old lady, you wanna get punched? Here we go* He's Viet and I'm half Viet and Half Chinese.
So you're the same?! You both have the same color and everything!

SAME? SAME COLOR? Is Polish and Italian-French the same? Is Canadian and American the same? Does that mean that I must be related to him? Does this woman have a death wish? Is that how they teach you at theknot to advertise and represent their company? Do you expect me to buy your crap? *Earmuffs: Maybe if you went to the school of IGNORANCE you dumb fuk.*

*Looks around the room* Hmmm, everyone else in this banquet hall is white with pale skin... does that mean you are related to all of them ignorant middle-aged theknot rep? As often as these things happen, I am pretty used to the ignorance of West Michigan. The ONLY reason I am still here is because I LOVE my industry and it is based in the area. My fiancé is moving out of the BAD area and driving an hour to work in the morning from the city because the ignorance and racism that resides in the uneducated-ville is so overwhelming. We would rather live a long ways away from work if it means we don't have to deal with the stares and underbreath comments that I CAN STILL HEAR. I'M ASIAN, NOT DEAF, STUPID. If I recommend anything, it would be to live in an educated town--one with a university. There is less of a close-minded population...... and more bars. Seriously.

That stupid theknot rep had the audacity to ask my fiancé and me if we were related! And THEN she said noted AUDIBLY that we were the same COLOR and everything. What's in this EVERYTHING part anyway?! I'm sure theknot hires good people. I'm sure that they don't intend to support bigots and the ignorant to represent them at Bridal Shows, but they did and that lady was a moron.

She caught us in a good mood. We had finally found a venue that would be perfect for our wedding. I JUST found hope that not all the places in the area sucked. Had we still been in a bad mood, I don't know what would have happened. Perhaps I would have asked her if she was related to all the other light-skinned people in the room. Perhaps I would have bitch-slapped her and asked her who her mama was. But no, I stared at another ignorant specimen, shocked and in complete disbelief, and walked away. Maybe SHE should marry her brother so they can have inbred children with the same COLOR and everything. Then they can spread their ignorance and everything. BTW--I'm like two shades darker than D, so TAKE THAT you color-challenged poophead. Yeah, I said it.

Sometimes, it's not worth it. Had we been in an awful mood, he or I would have cleverly said something in understated tones that with enough subtely, would make that woman think about what she said that night. We usually do. We've both been in situations where the other person walked away with their tail between their legs. We're not afraid to say anything--i.e.,

Someone once said that the lazy Japs were taking over our city while my fiancé was in the room. To which my fiancé in his business suit walked over to said gentleman and said, "The median income of Asians in the US is roughly twice as much for a Caucasian. I believe the word 'lazy' would be inappropriate." The man who made the comment didn't say a word and the man behind the counter said, "I LIKE ASIANS. YOU PEOPLE ARE HARD WORKERS." Dumbass--as if he didn't hear you agree with the craphead who all of the sudden forgot his opinion. YOU PEOPLE?!?! My business-suited man walked away quietly vindicated.

But that would be giving her too much credit--thinking she'd actually reflect on what she said. Plus everyone in that room was white so they could have given us a beat-down forcing us to listen to their awful pub music. Just kidding.

*Sigh* The worse part is that he and I are actually still worried about the area in which our new home is located. Most of the people send their children to private Catholic/Christian schools, i.e. small chance of diversity. I don't have any problem with any religion, just the people who teach their children to be ignorant, bigoted, and prejudiced. I'm not saying that all church people are that way because they aren't. But if you teach your children to hate people who don't believe the things that you do--what good are you and your religion? And unless you've dealt with the "What religion are you?" I answer and then they say, "OooOOoooOOoh" as if they PITY me for not being a white reformed Christian--than you don't really know, do you?

It doesn't stop in my area of course. Take a look at how clothing giant, H&M is not responding to an employee calling an Asian woman a Mail-Order bride. Read Article #2. You don't see this crap in the headline news because it's more important to discuss Britney Spear's psychotic meltdown--comon' you saw it coming.

I grew up where people always had some preconceived notion about "the Asian family in the neighborhood". My fiancé had his old neighbors throw fish on his lawn. I remember hearing other neighbors tell their children not to play with me and my sister. I remember being asked if I was dropped on my face because it was flat. So here we go. I will soon start my own life with my Asian fiancé in a white neighborhood.
