They Made Me Fat

: Catherine, Snow_love[warning] I occassionally go on rants and most of you will not agree with me or call me insensitive and judgmental, fine. I'm not here for validation. [/warning]
Why is it that people are so much less self-responsible now? Or does it only seem that way because the few who b*tch about other people changing things b*tch so much that it sounds like more people are like that?
I used to LOVE KFC--trans fats and all. It tasted delicious. Then, they had to change the oil or recipe to remove the trans fats. Why? Because people were suing them for making them fat. Excuse me? Did the Kentucky Fried Chicken man drive you into his restaurant and shove the chicken thighs down your throat? I don't think so. If he did, that's how I'd want to be kidnapped. Chicken all day: I am salivating already...
Did he make you order the family-sized meal for YOURSELF? I don't think so. If you, the awesome autonomous human being that you are, ordered that food and ate it knowing that eating more than 10 greasy-fried breasts, thighs (mmm, thighs are my favorite), and supersized fries with pounds of ketchup would make you overweight to say the least, then you are responsible for your own fatness (notice I say FATness, not PHATness). Not KFC. Don't force KFC to take away that flavor that I, who can mostly be assured to stop eating if I am full, love. Sometimes I can't... and I can deal with that. I won't have guilt over that.

It doesn't stop there. Tons of restaurant chains have removed the delicious-goodness of trans-fats from their menus. This is my question/gripe: If they are so worried about the health of people... why isn't something that I can't control, but harms me, banned? For example, smoking. Really, if people think corporate America should take away all that entices the human if it is unhealthy, why not take away the smoking section? Second hand smoke harms me more than the obese person sitting next to me whilst enjoying a deep fried bloom of onion rings. The fat person eating every burger off the menu next to me does not harm me. They are doing self-harm, but apparently, protecting people from themselves is more important than protecting people in general. Maybe this just calls for a warning on the fast food labels.
Consumption of this food product can be addictive and potentially lead to you overeating. You could gain a lot of weight and jeopardize your health. You might find yourself being driven to this establishment so that the manager can shove trans fats down your throat as well. Because these warnings have been printed on this label, we cannot be sued for serving you delicious food. Enjoy and use your autonomy to come back many more times!
I'm not neglecting the fact that there are food addictions just as much as any other disease, but I don't think that the flavor should be removed from the food I love because people have no self-control. I don't believe that protecting people from themselves should be in the jurisdiction of the MAN.
And yes, I'm not neglecting the other argument points that the poor can afford fast food better than other "healthier foods" which is why poorer people statistically eat less healthy. No, I didn't foget all that. I am JUST referring to the overeaters who have that choice--the people who CHOOSE, yes choose, not forced to eat that food.
This applies to so much more. Self-responsibility. If you choose to do or not do something and you don't favor the consequences, what sense does it make to blame someone else? It's easy to SAY that you'll change something, for sake of the example I'll say eating habits. It's EASY to SAY that you'll change your eating habits, but therein lies the difficulties of life. Life isn't supposed to be easy. Nothing is supposed to fall on your laps because you will it in your mind. If you want to make more money, do the work and get a better job. If you want to find a bf/gf, fix yourself and make your own moves. If you say you can't, you won't. If you want to get out of a rut, remove yourself from everyone and everything keeping you in the rut for a day and figure out where you want to be. These things aren't easy, but blaming other bodies (i.e. government, laws, corporations) for your own problems doesn't make it EASIER, does it? If I gained 200lbs, I would have no one else to blame but myself... unless of course the local Burger King manager was my neighbor and repetitively hog tied me and tortured me with tickles until I succumbed to a double whopper with cheese. Seriously?
Life's not on Easy Street. I was blessed since I know what I want, which for some takes a little longer, but that is OK. I worked my ass off to be where I am and if I can put in that energy to pursue what I want, I have a hard time believing other people can't do the same... even eventually.
Don't freakin' sue the fast food place because you're eating there everyday. Crazy ass. This is ludacris. I'm going to Burger King.
